In meiner Funktion als Jurymitglied der diesjährigen FRIGHT NIGHTS habe ich mir wohl über siebzig Kurzfilme angeschaut. Wirklich verdammt viele davon haben mich sehr beeindruckt, aber zwei davon haben mir einen richtigen Horrorhöhenflug beschert. Als sich dann bei der After Hour im Irish Pub genau die Regisseur dieser beiden Kurzfilme angeregt miteinander unterhalten haben, das wusste ich: This is a match made in Hell. In ESCALATION treffen wir auf einen unfassbar unsympathischen und selbstverliebten Kerl, der sich weigert, anderen Menschen zu helfen. Zum Glück weiß das Horrorkino ganz genau, wie man mit solchen Egozentrikern umzugehen hat. Mit seinem Kurzfilm ist Bachini ein echtes Horrormeisterwerk gelungen. Er hat lange Zeit in Asien gelebt und als Martial Arts Artist viele Filme gedreht. In ESCALATION spielt er selbst die Hauptrolle und seine Körperbeherrschung ist einfach unvergleichlich und nicht von dieser Welt. Jede einzelne Bewegung ist auf den Millimeter exakt abgestimmt. Die Präzision ist atemberaubend und die akribische Genauigkeit wird nur noch von der Großartigkeit der Pratical Effects übertroffen. Die Verstümmelungen sind auf einem derart hohen ästhetischen und professionellen Niveau, dass sogar große Hollywoodproduktionen den Vergleich scheuen müssen. Dabei wärmt Bachini keine alten Ideen auf und er will uns auch keinesfalls moralisch belehren. Er will uns von seiner eigenen Horrorvision überzeugen und mit seiner perfekt choreografierten Grausamkeit fesseln. Und das gelingt ihm! Selten zuvor ist das Abstoßende so schön und anziehend gewesen. Ich bin mir sicher, dass wir von Bachini noch verdammt viel hören werden, denn dieser Mann LEBT Horror! In TERRATOMA wird das anfangs erotische Liebesspiel zum absoluten Albtraum und sexuelle Lust gipfelt in körperlicher Zersetzung. Was im ersten Moment klingt, als würde uns hier jemand seine Moralvorstellungen in Form von Körperflüssigkeiten um die Ohren spritzen, ist in Wahrheit Body Horror in Reinkultur. Es geht keinesfalls darum, dass Sexualität etwas wäre, das man reglementieren muss, da es sonst schlimme Folgen haben wird. Im Gegenteil! TERRATOMA ist kein prüdes Schulfilmchen, sondern das leidenschaftliche Machwerk eines Mannes, der ebenso Angst vor Krankheiten hat, wie er sich vor den massiven Verpflichtungen fürchtet, die das Leben mit sich bringt, wenn man erst einmal nicht mehr nur für sich selbst verantwortlich ist. Pitas Film ist Body Horror vom Allerfeinsten und erinnert durchaus absichtlich an die Werke von David Cronenberg. Dennoch geht der extrem schockierende und im besten Sinne absolut abstoßende Kurzfilm einen ganz eigenen Weg und zeigt uns die uneingeschränkte Kompromisslosigkeit eines jungen Wilden, der so detailliert und exakt arbeitet, dass er sich einen Kniefall verdient hat. Pita geht weit über die Schmerz- und Ekelgrenze hinaus und ich folge ihm begeistert! Und das auf all den Wegen, die er zukünftig noch beschreiten wird.

In ESCALATION we meet an incredibly unsympathetic and self-absorbed guy who refuses to help another person. Fortunately, horror cinema knows exactly how to deal with such heartless egocentrics.
Bachini has succeeded in creating a real horror masterpiece with his short film. He has lived in Asia for a long time and made many films as a martial arts artist. In ESCALATION he plays the lead role himself and his body control is simply incomparable and out of this world. Every single movement is precisely tuned to the millimeter. The precision is breathtaking and the meticulous accuracy is only surpassed by the magnificence of the pratical effects. The mutilations are on such a high aesthetic and professional level that even big Hollywood productions have to shy away from the comparison. At the same time, Bachini doesn't rehash any old ideas, and he certainly doesn't want to lecture us morally. He wants to convince us of his own horror vision and captivate us with his perfectly choreographed cruelty. And he succeeds! Rarely before has the repulsive been so beautiful and appealing. I'm sure we'll be hearing a hell of a lot more from Bachini, because this man LIVES horror!
In TERRATOMA, the initially very erotic love game turns into an absolute nightmare and sexual pleasure culminates in physical decomposition. What sounds at first as if someone is spraying his moral concepts around our ears in the form of bodily fluids is in fact body horror in its purest form. It is in no way about sexuality being something that must be regulated, because otherwise it will have dire consequences. On the contrary! TERRATOMA is not a prudish school film, but the passionate work of a young man who is just as afraid of disease as he is of the massive obligations that life brings once you are no longer responsible only for yourself. Pita's film is body horror at its best, and is definitely intentionally reminiscent of the works of David Cronenberg. Still, this extremely shocking and, in the best sense, absolutely repulsive short film goes its own way and shows us the unrestrained uncompromisingness of a young savage who nevertheless works in such detail and precision that he has earned a knee-jerk reaction. Pita goes far beyond the limits of pain and disgust and I follow him enthusiastically! And on all the paths he will tread in the future.
